Bears Trade for Joe Tryon-Shoyinka: Boosting Pass Rush Before NFL Deadline! (2025)

Hold onto your helmets, Bears fans! The Chicago Bears just made a move to bolster their defense, but it might not be the blockbuster trade some were hoping for. They've acquired defensive end Joe Tryon-Shoyinka from the Cleveland Browns, hoping he can inject some much-needed energy into their pass rush.

The deal? The Bears are sending a 2026 sixth-round pick to Cleveland, along with a seventh-rounder in return, as confirmed by league sources. This move comes as the Bears' defensive front has been ravaged by injuries. Losing Dayo Odeyingbo to a season-ending Achilles tendon tear and rookie Shemar Turner to an ACL tear has left the team scrambling for depth. Dominique Robinson is also sidelined with a high ankle sprain, forcing defensive coordinator Dennis Allen to constantly shuffle the lineup.

Coach Ben Johnson, when asked about adding defensive depth, admitted the team was actively looking for ways to improve. He stated, "You can never have too many pass rushers." And he's right! A strong pass rush can completely change the game.

Tryon-Shoyinka, who played only 31 defensive snaps for the Browns this season across eight games, is a former first-round pick from 2021 (Tampa Bay Buccaneers). During his time in Tampa, he racked up 15 sacks and 73 quarterback pressures. He also has a connection with Bears defensive back Kyler Gordon, as they were college teammates.

But here's where it gets controversial...

For the Browns, this trade seems like a minor adjustment. They saw Tryon-Shoyinka as a potential impact player, but he saw more action on the punt return unit than on defense. With Cameron Thomas getting more playing time and also on a one-year deal, the Browns saw an opportunity to free up two spots on their 53-man roster.

What do you think of this trade, Bears fans? Does this move address a key need, or is it just a small step? Do you think Tryon-Shoyinka will make a significant impact? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
