Best Edgar Wright Movie? Vote & Discuss! (2025)

Edgar Wright: Genius or Overhyped? Let's Settle This! It's time to confront a question that divides film buffs everywhere: which Edgar Wright masterpiece reigns supreme? While I may not have been completely floored by his take on Stephen King's The Running Man (even though our own Tyler Nichols championed it as a unique and worthwhile adaptation), there's no denying Wright's distinct vision.

His films often spark an intense love-it-or-hate-it reaction, at least initially. I've experienced this firsthand. Movies like Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and Baby Driver instantly clicked with me, becoming instant favorites. But then there are films like Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, which took multiple viewings to truly appreciate and understand its brilliance. Who knows, maybe The Running Man will eventually win me over too?

But here's where it gets controversial... Is it fair to judge a director solely on their mainstream hits? Wright's journey began long before Shaun of the Dead. He honed his craft directing two seasons of the brilliant television show Spaced. This is where he first collaborated with the dynamic duo of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, laying the foundation for the humor that would define the acclaimed Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy.

Speaking of which, Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz are undeniably modern classics, genre-bending comedies that redefined zombie flicks and buddy cop movies, respectively. The World's End, while still excellent, perhaps doesn't quite reach the same iconic status. And this is the part most people miss... Wright's commitment to his artistic vision is unwavering. He famously walked away from Marvel's Ant-Man when he realized he wouldn't have the creative freedom he demanded. That's a bold move in today's blockbuster-driven Hollywood!

Let's also shine a spotlight on some of his more underappreciated gems. His documentary, The Sparks Brothers, is a testament to his eclectic taste and passion for music. It not only introduced me to the band Sparks but turned me into a major fan during the pandemic (and I even got to interview them!). It's a reminder that Wright's talent extends far beyond genre filmmaking.

So, here's the question: What's YOUR favorite Edgar Wright movie? Cast your vote in the poll below and, more importantly, tell us WHY in the comments! Is it the groundbreaking humor of Shaun of the Dead? The action-packed brilliance of Baby Driver? Or perhaps a hidden gem like The Sparks Brothers that speaks to you on a deeper level? I'm eager to hear your thoughts and see where you stand. Do you think Wright is consistently brilliant, or do some of his films miss the mark? Let's discuss!
