China's Dominance Continues at the 3rd Asian Youth Games: 13 Gold Medals and Counting

MANAMA, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese delegation's winning streak at the 3rd Asian Youth Games in Bahrain shows no signs of slowing down. On Saturday, they added 13 gold medals to their tally, showcasing their prowess in athletics, golf, and taekwondo. With multiple 1-2 finishes, China is firmly holding its position at the top of the medal table.

Athletics once again proved to be China's medal stronghold. At the Bahrain National Stadium, Chinese teenagers showcased their versatility and depth, winning eight gold and two silver medals across various Olympic events, including sprints, hurdles, middle-distance running, throws, and jumps. The young runners delivered strong performances, with Wu Mingwei claiming the boys' 400m hurdles, Chen Xinxuan taking the girls' 200m, and Song Jinping securing the girls' 800m title. Xu Chengwei added another victory with the boys' 2,000m steeplechase.

China's field athletes also shone brightly. Zhou Ruhan won the girls' long jump with an impressive leap of 5.88 meters. The boys' long jump final saw a Chinese sweep, with Yuan Lei claiming gold at 7.51m and Wang Pengbo taking silver at 7.37m. In the girls' hammer throw, Wang Yiru produced a winning mark of 68.59m, followed by teammate Gao Yujia, who took silver with 63.08m. Jiang Haozheng secured the boys' shot put title with a winning mark of 18.36m.

China's golf team delivered a landmark sweep at the Royal Golf Club, winning all four gold medals on offer and adding one silver. Golf coach Chi Yibing admitted the gold medal sweep 'went beyond expectation'. The team's success is a testament to their determination and trust in one another, as Cui Jinghan explained, 'If someone didn't have their best round, the first thing they heard wasn't blame. It was, 'It's fine. You'll bring it back tomorrow. We believe in you.'

In taekwondo, China added one gold and one silver medal to their tally. Li Mixue won the girls' -49kg title, while Xu Wanlin took silver in the girls' -55kg final after a 2-0 loss to her opponent from Uzbekistan. After Saturday's competitions, China led the overall medal standings with 26 gold, 17 silver, and 7 bronze medals, followed by Uzbekistan and Iran.
