Apac: A Tribute to Paramount Chief Yosam Odur
In a solemn ceremony, thousands of mourners gathered in the Apac district to bid farewell to His Highness Yosam Odur Ebii, the beloved Paramount Chief of the Lango people. His passing marked the end of an era, as he was laid to rest at his ancestral home in Teboke, leaving behind a profound legacy.
Born in 1926, Yosam Odur was a revered figure, serving as the elected Won Nyaci of the Lango Cultural Institution. His leadership was characterized by a deep commitment to education, cultural preservation, and moral values. Odur's vision extended beyond the boundaries of his community, playing a pivotal role in fostering unity and reconciliation in northern Uganda, even during the challenging times of the LRA insurgency.
The funeral, a testament to his impact, was attended by esteemed guests, including Vice President Jessica Alupo, who conveyed President Yoweri Museveni's condolences. Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng and Government Chief Whip Hon. Denis Hamson Obua, a prominent figure in the NRM, also graced the occasion. Obua, in his tribute, emphasized Odur's exceptional leadership, stating, 'The late embodied the extraordinary values of unity, culture, and service, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to guide the Lango people for generations.'
The Chief Whip extended his condolences to the bereaved family and the Lango community, describing Odur as 'a traditional pillar.' He further emphasized the NRM Government's dedication to cultural institutions, aligning with the President's vision. Vice President Alupo echoed these sentiments, praising Odur's contributions to harmony and development in Lango.
