Lions' Jameson Williams Shines Despite Loss: A Breakout Performance?
It's a tough pill to swallow when your team loses, but sometimes, individual brilliance shines through the defeat. Such was the case for Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams, who had a career day despite the 31-24 loss to the Packers on Thursday.
Williams exploded onto the scene, snagging seven of 10 targets for a whopping 144 yards and a touchdown. He also added a carry for negative five yards. Talk about making an impact! But here's where it gets interesting...
With Amon-Ra St. Brown sidelined in the first quarter due to an ankle injury, Williams stepped up as the Lions' WR1. He certainly didn't disappoint, setting new season highs in both receptions and receiving yards. He also caught his fourth touchdown in the last five games, a 22-yard beauty from Jared Goff in the second quarter.
Coach Dan Campbell hinted that St. Brown's ankle injury might keep him out for a game or two. This means Williams could be the clear top downfield option for Goff heading into a Week 14 matchup against the Cowboys, whose secondary has been, shall we say, vulnerable. On the season, Williams has put up a 38-706-6 stat line on 61 targets through 12 games.
But here's a thought-provoking question: Could this be the beginning of a true breakout for Williams? What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comments below! Do you believe Williams can maintain this level of performance, even when St. Brown returns? Let's discuss!
