Rehab Ahmed, Egypt's powerlifting queen, made history at the inaugural World Championships in Africa, claiming her fifth consecutive world title after overcoming injury. This achievement is even more remarkable as it came in a new weight category, showcasing her versatility and determination.
On October 15, 2025, Ahmed lifted an impressive 131kg in the women's up to 61kg category, securing her place at the top of the podium amidst a roaring Egyptian crowd. This victory was a testament to her resilience and a golden moment for Egypt.
Ahmed's success was built on two successful lifts: a confident 125kg in the first round and a powerful 131kg in the second, which sealed her victory. Despite an unsuccessful attempt at 136kg, her achievement was undeniable, especially considering the short four-month preparation period.
"After my injury at the Paris Paralympics, I knew I had to prove myself again. I wanted to show that I was back and better than ever. This medal is a symbol of my dedication and a promise to keep pushing boundaries. I'm aiming for another gold in Los Angeles!" Ahmed shared.

After a disappointing performance in Dubai, Ahmed's focus shifted to the Paralympics in Paris. There, she claimed her first Paralympic gold, but an injury during the bench press left her with an unfinished business. "I spent nine months at home, undergoing physical therapy and recovery. It was a challenging period, but I knew I had to get back to my best. Now, I'm ready to compete again and prove my worth," Ahmed explained.

Competing at the World Championships in her home country was a unique experience for Ahmed. Despite having participated in previous events in Cairo, the atmosphere and support were unparalleled.
"Egypt did an incredible job hosting this competition. It felt amazing to lift in front of my people. I was so comfortable and relaxed because I was at home. It made all the difference," Ahmed expressed.
Although her family and friends couldn't be there in person, her mother and daughter cheered her on from home, a constant source of support and motivation.
Team Spirit
Ahmed's decision to stay with Team Egypt throughout the championships was a strategic move that paid dividends. She wanted to share the experience with her teammates, creating a unified front.
"We are a team, and I wanted to feel that unity. It was important to me to go through the entire process together - training, preparation, and competition. The support I received from my teammates was incredible, and it pushed me to perform at my best," Ahmed said.

"I have three years to prepare, and I'm going to make the most of it. I want to thank my family, especially my mother and daughter, for their unwavering support. This gold medal is for them!" Ahmed concluded.
