This historical event, driven by Cold War fears and British interests in Iranian oil, ultimately paved the way for the 1979 Islamic Revolution, which established the theocracy still in power today.
The protest in Los Angeles, held along Veteran Avenue in the Westwood neighborhood, drew a massive crowd, some waving pre-revolution Iranian flags. By 5 PM, after a dispersal order was issued, only about a hundred protesters remained, according to KABC. Meanwhile, in Iran, activists report that a brutal crackdown on nationwide protests has claimed over 530 lives, with demonstrations continuing in Tehran and other major cities.
