The most common delivery issues included drivers leaving before customers could reach the door (a frustrating 29% of cases!), parcels being left in insecure locations (24%), and late deliveries (also 24%). These experiences highlight the need for improved customer service and a more considerate approach to accessibility.

Despite requesting deliveries to his back door due to mobility issues, his parcels are often misdelivered or left exposed to the elements. Ofcom, the regulator, introduced guidance on complaints and accessibility in 2023. However, Citizens Advice's research suggests that many parcel firms are still not adhering to these rules. Dame Clare Moriarty, the charity's CEO, emphasizes the need for tougher action to improve the parcel market.

Responses from Delivery Companies

Amazon highlights its commitment to providing fast, reliable, and safe deliveries, acknowledging that rare issues are addressed directly with customers. Royal Mail expresses satisfaction with its top ranking, attributing its success to convenient options for sending, returning, and collecting parcels, including an extensive out-of-home network.

Evri acknowledges the progress it has made on service, attributing it to sustained investments in operations and technology. The company also emphasizes its commitment to accessibility improvements, partnering with Scope to enhance doorstep and website delivery options.

Yodel and DPD, however, did not provide comments for this article.
